James Arthur Stark was born May 18, 1928, in Earlsboro, Oklahoma, to Hawley and Evelyn Root Stark.
Stark graduated from L.A.’s Inglewood High School in 1946, then joined the U.S. Navy. He returned to Los Angeles to earn a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at UCLA, interrupted briefly by another stint in the Navy during the Korean War.
On August 31, 1953, Stark married Lois Gamradt in Los Angeles; they raised four children. The family moved to Palatine in 1971.
His career included 15 years at General Electric - where he became Manager of Engineering, then Philco Ford, where he was Director of Product Engineering for three years. Stark spent another 20 years at Zenith Electronics as Vice President of Purchasing in Glenview.
ENS James Stark died January 26, 2005, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
